Resolute Misaki is the first woman presiding over the student council of a former pure boy school. Against the rough masculine horde she is persistently in pursuit of her aim, to render her school more attractive for the fair sex and, with an increasing feminine fraction, to more easily maintain decency and order. Because her family is poor, Misaki additionally has to work, and there's the catch already: Her job as a waitress at a Maid Café would, while being well-paid for passable effort, most likely damage her authority irreparably via social stigma ... if somebody knew about it ... which nobody does ... until the coolest guy of the school, admired by all the boys, adored by all the girls, discovers her secret ... and likes it. The beginning of a relationship which Misaki struggles against to a sometimes greater, sometimes lesser extent, but which can also be pretty useful for the adventures ahead with the competent Usui displaying considerable skills as knight in shining armour.
Whoever would watch something like Kaichou Wa Maid-sama by default? Exactly. Yet the series amazingly manages to limit the expected cliche, kitsch and romance overkill to a tolerable level and instead shines with very sympathetic characters, lots of drive and slick comedy. Appealingly presented, thoroughly commended.
