After years of underperforming, the football club East Tokyo United hire their ex-star player Takeshi Tatsumi as the new coach. Tatsumi freshly hops over from England, where he lead an amateur side into later FA Cup stages than expected. He is not greeted with overall enthusiasm, though, sceptics and/or people not able to forgive his past move away from the club and considering him a traitor are waiting in the environment and in the club itself. The squad has some potential, but there is no team yet, and from the start the new coach is not making any friends here either. Will his understanding of the game and his unorthodox methods take effect in time to form a winning team? In Giant Killing, players don't get self-reflective flashbacks of half of their lifes during 2 seconds on the pitch, they can't apparently jump 5 meters minimum high and stay in the air for 5 minutes to kung-fu fight for the ball. It's all about football, not a caricature thereof. The series is more into the developments between club board, coaching team, the squad, the fans and the media, the action on the pitch is acceptably done. The character designs need some getting used to, everything else is solid craft. A tip for those interested in football and sports in general.
