Reserved Mikado moves to the Tokyo-based school of his longtime buddy Kida, more precisely to the urban district of Ikebukuro. Kida can tell a thing or two about the different local people, cliques and mysteries, Mikado is correspondingly fascinated. The most spectacular phenomenon at hand is a motorcycle messengeress dressed in black, whose helmet according to rumours hides the fact that she has no head. Compared to her others like a bartender throwing around vending machines as well as fellow men, a giant dark-skinned Russian promoting his sushi restaurant to potential customers, a girl with a creepy scar all around her neck and several similarly interesting figures can't quite compete. But they all have their own mysterious role in the connected microcosm of Ikebukuro, which Mikado will have to feel out ...
